Linlithgow march on with 9 wicket win at Dunnikier
On Saturday Linlithgow 1st XI travelled to Kirkcaldy to take on Dunnikier. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first on an AstroTurf wicket. Linlithgow quickly had the hosts in trouble with four wickets down for only 10 runs thanks to excellent bowling from Gregor Thomson and Duncan Heslop. Thereafter, the home side provided some resistance thanks to a partnership of 70 between two middle order batsmen and spirited batting by the tail-enders which eventually took Dunnikier to a total of 171 all out from 43 overs.
Gregor Thomson was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 9 overs, 3 wickets for 18 runs ably supported once again by Duncan Heslop, 1 wicket for 13 runs from 8 overs and Andy Wallace with 2 wickets for 28 runs from his 9 overs.
In reply, Linlithgow got off to a strong start with Kevin Stump and Gregor Thomson putting on 62 for the first wicket partnership. Stump eventually was dismissed for a score of 30 while Thomson ploughed on with Will Nettleton picking up where Stump had left off. The match was not without incident as Dunnikier temporarily walked off the pitch whilst disputing a run-out not awarded in their favour. Once play resumed, however, Thomson and Nettleton put the hosts to the sword with a string of powerful shots that had the scoreboard ticking along at pace.
Linlithgow won the match emphatically by 9 wickets and collected the maximum 20 points whilst Dunnikier picked up 5 bonus points.
Next weekend Linlithgow 1st XI host struggling Royal High Corstorphine at Boghall on Saturday, before travelling to Dundee on Sunday to replay the previously abandoned Challenge Cup tie from a couple of weeks ago.
